2. Hosting and server log files
This website is operated on a server of Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, in a data centre in Germany.
Each time the website is accessed, the web server automatically stores information in log files: IP address, date and time of access, requested page (for lookups including the domain searched for), amount of data transferred, referrer URL, browser type and operating system. This data is processed to ensure smooth and secure operation (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) and is automatically deleted after 30 days. To protect against overload, the web server also counts the requests per IP address and day; this counter is only kept in memory and discarded after 24 hours.
3. WHOIS and DNS lookup
When you look up a domain, our server sends the domain name to the responsible RDAP or WHOIS server of the respective registry (for example DENIC eG for .de domains). These servers may also be located outside the European Union. Only the domain name is transferred, no data about you. Our server loads the list of the responsible RDAP servers once a week from IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority).
For the DNS lookup, our server sends the name to the public DNS service AdGuard DNS (AdGuard Software Limited, Anexartisias and Athinon 79, 3040 Limassol, Cyprus). Here, too, only the name is transferred; AdGuard does not receive your IP address. The provider is based in the European Union. Further information: adguard-dns.io/en/privacy.html.
The results are cached on our server, WHOIS data for up to 24 hours and DNS data for up to 10 minutes, without any reference to you. The ten most recently looked-up domains are shown as “Recently searched domains”, likewise without any information about who looked them up.
The registration data shown comes from the respective registry. Insofar as the registry publishes data about domain owners, it may contain personal data. We only display it at your request.
To protect against automated mass lookups, the number of lookups per hour is limited. For this purpose, a checksum of your IP address is kept in the server's cache for one hour.
The legal basis in each case is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest lies in providing the function you requested and in protecting the service against misuse.
4. Cookies
Pages with a form (home page, WHOIS and DNS lookup) set two technically necessary cookies: a session cookie and a cookie that protects the forms against misuse (CSRF protection). They contain no information about you and are deleted after two hours without use. The legal basis is Section 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG in conjunction with Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
We store your decision on advertising (section 5) in the local storage of your browser (entry “domainwelt-ads”), so that we do not have to ask you again on every page. The entry does not leave your device. The legal basis is Section 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG.
5. Advertising (QualiGO)
On the WHOIS and DNS lookup pages we would like to show text ads from the advertising network QualiGO (qualigo.com). This only happens if you choose “Allow ads” in the notice on these pages. Your browser then loads a script and an ad frame from QualiGO's servers; in the process, your IP address, browser information, the address of the page and, as a search term, the name of the domain looked up without its extension are transferred to QualiGO, and QualiGO sets its own session cookie. Without your consent, nothing is loaded from QualiGO.
The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, Section 25(1) TDDDG). You can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future: via the link “Ad settings” below the ad space.
6. Fonts and external content
Fonts and scripts of this website are loaded from our own server. Apart from the advertising described in section 5 (only after consent), no analytics tools, external content delivery networks or social media plugins are used. Links to our offer on subdomain.com only transfer data to that website when clicked.
7. Your rights
You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and the right to object to processing based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (Art. 21). To do so, please use the contact details above.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The competent authority is the State Commissioner for Data Protection of Lower Saxony (Landesbeauftragter für den Datenschutz Niedersachsen), Prinzenstraße 5, 30159 Hannover, Germany.
